PHILIPPE DE LA NOYE (Delanoy, de Lannoy, etc. later Americanized Delano): From Delano (1899)5 we learn that Philippe De La Noye was born in 1602 in Leiden Holland, of noble and ancient ancestory, the son of Jean de Lannoy and Marie le Mahieu who were French protestant (Huguenots). Ancestory is traced from Charlemagne, 800 AD, Louis I King of France, Alfred the Great of England, William I Conqueror and King of England, etc. etc. etc. These family lines are traced to early Franks in Holland and Germany, 400 AD, to Viking and Castillian (Spanish) nobility, and to the Actii family in Rome, 600 BC, and Venetian Lombardy, 500 BC, some sixty seven generations to Philippe the immigrant.
Philippe was baptised in the Walloon (Dutch) Church in 1603 at Leiden and grew up under the influence and teaching of the English Separatists who fled England in 1608. At age 19 he came to New Plymouth on the ship Fortune with Moyses Symonson et. al. He was admitted Freeman on Jan. 1,1632/3. With Brewster, Standish, Alden, Simmons, etc. he was among the founders of Duxbury
Mass. six miles north of Plymouth.
On Dec. 19,1634 he married Hester Drewsbury by whom he had eight children
before she died. He married 2nd at Duxbury 1657 Mary (Pontus)Glass, widow of
James Glass and daughter of William Pontus. |
