The name Jewett traces back to one Henri de Juatt, a knight of the first crusades. The family became Huguenots, fled from French persecution and settled in England. In 1638 the brothers Joseph and Maximillian came from Bradford, England to settle Rowley with Rev. Ezekial Rogers and his sixty or so families. They were the sons of Edward Jewett, whose will was proved July
12,1615 by widow Mary (Taylor) Jewett.
