David William Hutchins was born March 25,1746 at Chelmsford, Mass. He died Jan. 20,1822 at New Portland, Maine. He married on Nov. 17,1772 Mary Munroe Emery, daughter of John and Mary (Monroe) Emery. She was born Nov. 20,1751 and died July 11,1845, "aged 93". Both are buried in the East New Portland Cem. where the gravestone reads :

"They were the first settlers of the town
They have run the race and won the crown
They endured much in toil and pain
and now they've gone in peace to reign"

They are THE pioneer settlers of New Portland, Maine (See Foss, 1977)12
They had eleven children.
