WILLIAM MULLINS, signer of the compact, was born in Surry County, England perhaps in Dorking. He died in the first general sickness on March 3,1621 that is Feb. 21,1620/21 old style, in New Plymouth. He had married in England, Alice ?_____?. She died in New Plymouth soon after April 2,1621. He was one of the "wealthy merchant adventurers" and is thought to have had £500 invested in the company. Just before his death (before the Mayflower returned to England) he made an oral will which was taken down by John Carver and dated April 2,1621. William's will was carried back to England on the returning Mayflower and there probated by his daughter Sarah. In it he mentions his wife and four children.
