The 3rd / 4th synchro and third gear have been removed. Getting the retaining rings (left and right in the picture) off is a bit of a chore. I bought a pair of retaining ring expansion pliers from Sears. These were almost big enough. They didn't want to open up quite enough to make removal (and installation) easy. But a little work with the pliers eventually got them off (and on).
